The name ” Oregon Trail” conjurers up a lot of thoughts and images of wide expanses of land and adventures. My 2012 Oregon Trail trip had some of that and more. To make this Easy I dissected the trip into 3 easy to ready areas. This is obviously the first part Labeled “The Coast”. The Oregon Coast is an amazing place hundreds of miles of wind swept coast dotted with small towns that just remind me of when life was simple. When your biggest concern was friendship and enough gas in the car , not the boss at work and a mortgage payment. I was amazed at how the 3 towns we visited all felt completely different. Lincoln City , the most northern of the 3 felt busy due to its shopping mall and hotels. Newport , the middle town was my favorite. Few hotels here and there , lots of salt water breezes right off the coast and into down town. It was at Newport we discovered the famous “Mo’s Seafood” and watched people catch crab right from the shore. Here in Alaska we never see crabbers because they are hundreds of miles away in the Bering Sea. Mo’s Seafood Diner served us up a shrimp dish to die for, popcorn shrimp , shrimp skewers, beer battered shrimp and a side of clam chowder..AHHHHH It was heavenly. Once we stuffed ourselves on shrimp we stopped at Cape Perpetua , a nice spot nestled in the Siuslaw National Forest, which provided me with some great action shots of waves that almost soaked me. I cant express enough the love I have for this section of the coast.
The last spot was Reedsport , which basically was a “coast” town but felt more “country” than coastal, but loud and dirty with rude people not the more hospitable people i ran into in the other towns…Well Below is a sample of what I saw ..Hope you enjoy
