With Axiovert, you’re assured reliable and reproducible results.\nReproducible Results\nThe coded components of Axiovert detects changes to objectives or contrast techniques, then adjusts dependent parameters – such as light intensity and scaling – \nautomatically. This allows multi-faceted routine workflows to be processed more quickly and easily. Using process parameters that you or others have stored, anyone \ncan reproduce an exact workflow at any time and achieve comparable results, independent of individual users’ operating habits or preferences.\nAutomatic adjustment of the light intensity after changing the \nobjective (upper right)\nAutomatic adjustment of the light intensity after changing the \nobjective and contrasting technique (upper right)\n10× (Brightfield)\n50× (Brightfield)\n50× (Darkfield)\n100 µm\n20 µm\n20 µm\n› In Brief\n› The Advantages\n› The Applications\n› The System\n› Technology and Details\n› Service\n\n\nPage 8\n8\nZEISS Axiovert at Work: Contrast Methods\nAluminium alloy, 100×, brightfield\nUse the contrast method of reflected light bright-\nfield to analyze the microstructures of etched sur-\nfaces. Recognizing grain boundaries, you can draw \nconclusions on grain sizes, phases and structural \nconstituents. See colors and pigments. Detect \nimpurities and structural constituents, such as \ngraphite in cast iron, prior to etching.\nAlpha-Beta Ti, 500×, darkfield. Photo courtesy: Allied High Tech \nProducts Inc.\nIn reflected light darkfield, mechanical surface \nfaults such as fracture sites, pores and inclusions \nshow up just as well as cracks, scratches and \ncavities. You can assess the surface quality of \nprocessed work pieces precisely, and make out \ngrain boundaries on etched cuts just as easily.\nUse the polarization contrast to analyze the \nstructure of anisotropic materials, such as \nmagnesium, aluminum, bronze and brass. In \npolarized light, the individual grains of crystal \nlattice will show their characteristic color.\nThe Differential Interference Contrast (DIC) lets \nyou detect tiny structural differences in height \nwith particular sensitivity. Differences in height, \nwhether in the form of natural differences or \nartifacts produced by preparation, take on a \n3D effect as relief-like structures.\nPure magnesium, 100×, polarization.
