With normal light\nsources this would mean a lot of heat, which is very likely to ruin your speci-\nmens. Cold light sources ensure intensive specimen illumination with “cold”,\ni.e. infrared-free light. This visible light is conducted right up to the specimen via\nhigh-quality fiber-optic light guides.\nSpecimen-preserving cold light is a\nstandard feature of Carl Zeiss stereo-\nmicroscopes. The performance of the\nKL1500 LCD and KL 2500 LCD Cold\nLight Sources sets new standards for\nstereomicroscope illumination.\nSalient features:\n• LC display of color temperature\nand operating modes\n• Continuous electronic and\nmechanical dimming\n• Stackability without com-\npromise on function or operating\nconvenience\n• Easy lamp change – \nno tools required\n\n\nPage 2\nIlluminating and Contrasting Methods\nSpotlight \nWhere the stereomicros-\ncopist needs a lot of light\nconcentrated in a small\nspot, fiber-optic spot illu-\nminators are the answer. \nAnnular light\nAnnular illuminators provide\ncircular illumination directed\ntoward the center of the\nspecimen, with almost no\nshadows. Annular slit illumi-\nnators allow darkfield obser-\nvation with either epi- or\ntransillumination.\nLinear slit light\nEpi-illumination of the\nspecimen surface at a very\nsmall angle makes structures\nof extremely low height \nvisible.\nFiber-optic light guides, whether slack or of the goose-neck\ntype, have become standard as spot epi-illuminators in\nstereomicroscopy. Their flexibility allows them to be arranged\nat almost any position and angle relative to the specimen. \nWith the fiber illuminator set vertically inside the focusing\nbracket, you can use the Transillumination Light Box\nfor brightfield transmitted-light observation, thanks to a\ntwo-mirror deflection system.\nFor coaxial illumination (only for Stemi SV microscopes),\nthe illumination light is directly coupled into the stereo-\nmicroscope’s observation beam path. Thus, the size of \nthe light spot automatically adjusts to the specimen field\ncovered. Disturbing reflections are eliminated by an anti-\nreflection cap.\nFor darkfield epi-illumination, the fibers of the annular\nilluminator are arranged to cast the light onto the specimen \nat an angle of 60° rather than vertically. \nThis way, only the light that is diffracted by the specimen can\nenter the objective.\nFor all-round darkfield transmitted light, a central stop\nbetween annular illuminator and specimen obstructs the\ndirect light. Here again, only the light that is diffracted by\nthe specimen and therefore carries information about it,\ncan enter the objective. Switching from the central stop to\nan opal glass disk allows you to observe the specimen with\nbrightfield transmitted light.\nHere, the round cross-section of the fiber bundle is con-\nverted into a linear (slit) arrangement. The rays emerging\nfrom the linear slit form a carpet of light covering a large\nspecimen area and casting shadows even of the smallest\nelevations.\n2\n1\n2\n3\n4\n5\n6\n\n\nPage 3\n3\nInclined epi-illumination \ncasts shadows at the specimen\nstructures, a prerequisite for \nthree-dimensional images.\nSimple configuration \nfor brightfield transmitted-\nlight illumination.\nThis brightfield illuminator\nbrings out many details of\nflat, reflecting or polarizing\nsurfaces.\nFor darkfield epi-illumination,\nthe annular illuminator is\npositioned close to the specimen.\nIt is used together with a sleeve\nthat prevents extraneous light\nfrom impairing the contrast.\nEspecially with transmitted light,\nomnilateral darkfield reveals\nfinest structures at high contrast.\nWith incident illumination at\nan extremely flat angle, added\ncontrast is produced by the high\nlight yield and distinct shadows.\n417090-9002-000\nFocusing attachment to\n000000-1063-292\nin
