For ease of use, apply the wax to a heated fixture. \nInstructions for Use \n1. Heat a fixture on a hot plate at 150 ºC.\n2. Place a small amount of mounting wax on\nthe surface of the fixture.\n3. Once the wax is soft, place the sample on\nthe fixture.\nNote: For an ultra-thin layer, dip a\ncotton-tipped applicator in acetone and run\nit along the wax layer until the wax appears\nhazy and has no clumps.\n4. Remove the fixture from the hot plate and allow it to cool at room temperature.\n5. To remove the sample after preparation, place the fixture back on the hot plate and\nreheat the wax. Once the wax is soft, remove the sample; the wax can be reused.\nNote: Do not quench the fixture to cool the wax; the wax may become brittle, causing\nthe sample to break off. For some samples, a mount leveling press (#120-30020) can be\nused to even out and thin the wax layer, improving registration between the sample and\nfixture.\nMounting Wax \nMelting \nTemperature \n50 °C \nFlow Point \n75 °C \nViscosity \n25,000 cP @ 75 °C \n5,000 cP @ 100 °C \n2,000 cP @ 125 °C \nSolvent \nAcetone \nFigure 1: Mounting wax was used to secure a) a package to a cross-sectioning paddle, b) silicon \nto a TEM wedge/FIB thinning paddle and c) an IC to a standard parallel polishing fixture. \na \nb \nc \n\n\nPage 2\n2 of 2 \nSheet Wax (#71-10400) \nSheet wax provides uniform distribution of wax to improve \nregistration accuracy of the sample to the fixture, and can be \neasily cut to size and placed on a room-temperature fixture before \nmelting. \nIt is typically used for dicing, thin sections and parallel delayering. \nWhile sheet wax can be used with samples of any size, it is easier \nto achieve a uniform wax thickness preparing larger samples \n(≥ 10 mm2). \nInstructions for Use \n1. Cut out the sheet wax to fit the required sample shape.\n2. Remove the lining from the back of the sheet wax, place the\nwax on a fixture/paddle and place the sample on the wax.\n3. Place the fixture with the sample and wax on a hot\nplate at 150 ºC.\n4. The wax will be completely melted when all the\nbubbles have spread out creating an even uniform\nlayer.\n5. Remove the fixture from the hot plate and allow it\nto cool at room temperature.\n6. To remove the sample after preparation, place the\nfixture back on the hot plate and reheat the wax.\nOnce the wax is soft, remove the sample. Sheet\nwax is not as effective after the first use, since the\nwax layer has already been thinned out.\nNote: Do not quench the fixture to cool the wax;\nthe wax may become brittle, causing the sample to\nbreak off. This wax is more resistant to acetone, so\nWax Dissolver can be used to remove the wax from\nthe sample and fixture after use.\nSheet Wax \nFlow Point \n100 °C \nTensile Strength \n120 psi \nShore Hardness \n80 A \nSolvent \nWax Dissolver \nWax Dissolver (#71-10210) \nUse wax dissolver to thin or remove sheet wax. It can be applied directly to the wax with a \ncotton-tipped applicator or wipe. \nFigure 2: Sheet wax was used to secure \na) a package to a 3&quot; parallel polishing fixture and \nb) a silicon wafer to a glass insert for dicing.\na \nb \nwww.alliedhightech.com \nAllied High Tech Products, Inc. \nCall for more information: 800.675.1118 \n</pre></details>",
