How To Polish in Metallography

Metallographic grinding is an important part of metallography, is able to analyze and study the prerequisites of the specimen. During the grinding process, there is solid abrasive or free abrasive between the grinding tool and the surface of the workpiece, and a certain pressure is applied between them and a complex relative motion is generated, so that after the grinding action of the grit, a very thin layer is removed from the surface of the workpiece, and then a very high precision and small surface roughness is obtained. When the metallographic grinding reaches the testing requirements, the internal organization and structure of the specimen can be observed with a metallographic microscope.

Polishing Process

Metallographic specimens are cut or inlaid, a series of grinding work is required to get an ideal grinding surface, and then analysis and confirmation. Grinding process generally including grinding, polishing, and final polishing 3 steps.
