01 / Keep the designation intact
Store the manufacturer’s original grit or particle-size designation, including its standard prefix. Similar-looking numbers from different grading systems should not be treated as identical.
02 / Separate size from finish
An abrasive size describes the abrasive specification. It is not a guaranteed surface roughness. The process, workpiece and measurement method also affect the result.
03 / Record dimensions and interfaces
For discs, belts, wheels and pads, record all specified dimensions and the attachment or mounting interface. Keep metric and imperial values labelled.
04 / Link the current documentation
Retain the source page and relevant technical or safety documentation. Check the manufacturer’s stated machine compatibility and operating limits before selection.
