Glass Support Plate
Date: 06/2020, v1.2
The glass support plate is a smooth, clear
8" ø x 0.25" T plate that provides an ultra-flat
surface for lapping products (Figure 1). It is
intended to be used on top of a standard or
magnetic MultiPrep™ platen when standard
platens do not provide a flat or smooth enough
surface due to grooves and/or rough surfaces
from manufacturing. Following standard
alignment of the MultiPrep™, the glass plate
can be used accordingly:
Plain Glass Support Plate
1. Place the glass plate on top of a dry standard
MultiPrep™ platen.
2. Adhere the glass directly to the platen by
wrapping electrical tape around the perimeter
of both the glass and the platen (Figure 2).
3. Place diamond lapping film on the glass plate
and use it as normal.
Magnetic Glass Support Plate
1. Place a magnetic glass support plate on a
magnetic MultiPrep™ platen (Figure 3).
2. Place diamond lapping film on the glass plate
and use it as normal.
3. Tape and other adhesives are not necessary.
Lapping with a Glass Support Plate
The glass plate can be used as a lapping surface in conjunction with diamond
compounds or diamond lapping films and a designated polishing lubricant. The plate is
hard and does not compress, allowing for tighter edge tolerances and better flatness
than compressible polishing cloths.
