Built-in safety features

Special etching methods using low-concentration electrolytes

Method database with Struers standard methods and up to 200 custom methods

Suitable for external etching

Appropriate for multiple specimen sizes

Cover for increased safety

LectroPol-7 automates electrolytic polishing and etching of metallographic specimens. Its scanning function helps you select a suitable voltage for a new material, while controlling electrolyte flow, temperature monitoring, and stored methods support repeatable preparation.
The system consists of a control unit and a polishing unit connected by a 2 m cable. The polishing unit can be placed in a fume cabinet, while the control unit is used to program and monitor the process.

How does LectroPol support your Electrolytic Preparation

Find suitable settings with less trial and error

When you work with a new specimen material, the scanning function measures a current-density curve across a defined voltage range. Use the curve to select a suitable voltage for polishing or etching instead of relying solely on repeated parameter trials.

Repeat a preparation method with confidence

Stored methods help you apply defined settings when preparing recurring materials. Controlled electrolyte flow and temperature monitoring support consistent process conditions, while the pump can circulate electrolyte before applying current, supporting even flow from the start.

Set up the process to suit your laboratory

The separate control and polishing units give you flexibility in where you place the equipment. Position the polishing unit in a fume cabinet while programming and monitoring the process from the control unit outside the fume cabinet. External etching is also available when polishing and etching require different electrolytes.

Enhanced operator safety

LectroPol includes safety functions designed to protect the operator.
LectroPol-7 monitors electrolyte temperature, voltage, and current during preparation. Depending on the limit reached, the system can issue a warning, stop the process, or reduce the settings. A transparent cover helps protect the operator while keeping the preparation area visible.

LectroPol-7 electrolyte container with lid

Changeable electrolyte container with lid for safe electrolyte handling

LectroPol-7 external electrolytic etching function

Optional external electrolytic etching with preset etching time

The scanning function measures the current-density curve across a predefined voltage range, helping you select a suitable voltage for polishing or etching a new specimen material.

Scanning function

The method database lets you store preparation settings and reuse them for recurring materials and tasks. LectroPol comes with more than ten polishing/etching methods and can store up to 200 custom methods.

Method database

Controlled electrolyte flow and temperature help you maintain defined process conditions. The pump can circulate electrolyte before applying current, while temperature monitoring starts cooling when it reaches a preset limit.

Electrolyte flow

Electrolyte temperature monitoring through a measuring and control system continuously monitors the electrolyte temperature. When the preset temperature is reached, cooling starts using mains water or liquid from an external cooling unit.

Electrolyte temperature monitoring

Separate control and polishing units allow the polishing unit to be positioned in a fume cabinet while the control unit programs and monitors the process.

Separate control and polishing units

External etching provides an option when polishing and etching requires different electrolytes. The etching time can be preset, and the countdown begins automatically when the specimen is lowered into the external etching bowl.

External etching

The electrolyte container is integrated into the polishing unit and can be removed for changing or refilling. A dedicated lid supports closed storage when the container is not installed in the polishing unit.

Changeable electrolyte container

The transparent safety cover creates a physical barrier around the polishing area and protects the operator while keeping the preparation area visible during operation.

Transparent safety cover

The optional extension arm allows you to prepare specimens up to 100 mm high. It can be mounted on either polishing unit listed in the brochure draft.

Optional extension arm

Different mask sizes are available to match the size of the area you need to polish or etch.

Preparation workflow

For a new material, the scanning function measures a current-density curve across a defined voltage range. The curve is used to select a polishing or etching voltage, reducing trial-and-error setup.

Stored methods allow defined settings to be reused for recurring materials and preparation tasks.

Electrolyte and temperature control

The pump can circulate electrolyte before current is applied so that flow is established at process start. Temperature is monitored continuously; cooling can start at a preset limit using mains water or an external cooling unit.

Laboratory configuration

  • The polishing unit may be installed in a fume cabinet while the separate control unit remains outside for programming and monitoring.
  • A removable electrolyte container has a lid for closed storage when it is not installed.
  • External etching is available when polishing and etching require different electrolytes.
  • Different mask sizes define the preparation area; an optional extension arm accommodates specimens up to 100 mm high.

Process safeguards

The system monitors electrolyte temperature, voltage and current. Depending on the limit reached, it can warn the operator, stop the process or reduce settings. A transparent cover forms a barrier around the polishing area while keeping it visible.
