RUPES polishing pad selection matrix
Technical selection reference for RUPES polishing pads, separating the 180 mm SMARTFIX double-sided rotary pads from the D-A COARSE 9.XW wool sizes. The matrix preserves code, material, diameter, colour and intended correction stage so the family is not treated as one interchangeable SKU.

D-A COARSE wool size identifiers
These diameter-coded wool pads belong to the D-A COARSE range and should not be substituted for the 180 mm SMARTFIX double-sided connection.
| 9.XW80H | 80 mm |

| 9.XW130H | 130 mm |
| 9.XW160H | 160 mm |
Pad construction and process effect
- Twisted wool provides the most aggressive material-removal position in the listed SMARTFIX group.
- Coarse blue foam targets significant defects and sanding marks.
- Fine yellow foam moves the process toward refinement while retaining correction capability.
- Ultra-fine white foam is intended for the final gloss stage and light surface defects.
- The waffle face reduces full-area contact and helps limit heat accumulation during rotary movement; it does not remove the need to control speed, pressure and dwell.
Selection and use
- Match the pad code to the machine connection before mounting; SMARTFIX pads require the corresponding double-sided rotary connector.
- Choose pad diameter to suit the backing or drive system and the workpiece geometry.
- Pair correction stage, compound and pad condition; a contaminated pad can reintroduce defects.
- Prime and clean pads according to the process plan, and replace pads with torn foam, damaged wool or insecure connectors.
- Use test sections to establish speed, pressure, number of passes and surface-temperature limits for the actual coating.
